Elena Rybakina wins Wimbledon women’s singles title, her first grand slam and first for Kazakhstan

The Duchess of Cambridge couldn’t contain her emotion today as she watched Russian-born Elena Rybakina thrash Tunisian third seed Ons Jabeur in a historic Women’s final.

Kate Middleton, 40, cut a polished figure in a vibrant yellow custom Roksanda dress, first worn during her tour of the Caribbean earlier this year, as she joined stars including Tom Cruise and Ellie Goulding in the Royal Box for the thrilling match in SW19 today.

The bespoke piece, featuring a wrap top and a billowing skirt, appears to have been inspired by the £1,095 Brigitte midi dress in marigold by the designer label. Kate’s has been designed with short sleeves, but a sleeveless version is available.

As she arrived, she appeared particularly excited to see former tennis ace Martina Hingis, who was sitting alongside the Duchess in the royal box. It is not known if the two women have met previously or are friends.

The match saw Jabeur, who is African, Arab and a Muslim – three significantly under-represented demographics in tennis, and Russian-born Elena, who was playing under the flag of Kazakhstan, take to Centre Court.

Rybakina rallied from a set down to deny Jabeur her own slice of history with a 3-6 6-2 6-2 victory over the Tunisian world No.2 in Saturday’s showdown at the All England Club.

The 23-year-old Rybakina is also the youngest women’s Wimbledon champion since Petra Kvitova in 2011 after reducing Jabeur to a frustrated wreck during the one-hour, 48-minute title decider.

During the match, the royal mother-of-three appeared swept away in the spirit of the day, and was seen gasping, cheering and even hiding her face.

Kate is patron of the Lawn Tennis Association and a regular fixture at Wimbledon. Today is her second appearance at the championship this year – having previously cheered Cameron Norrie on during his quarter-final match.

It marks a joyful period for the Duchess amid the news today that her sister Pippa is heavily pregnant with her third child.

Keeping her look simple, the Duchess opted for minimal jewellery – but added some glitz to her look with a pair of chunky gold earrings.

In April, The Duchess was spotted enjoying a spot of tennis with her children Prince George, Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis at the exclusive Hurlingham Club, in Fulham, where annual membership costs from £1,600-a-year.

The Duchess has incorporated tennis into a number of royal engagements, most recently joining Emma Raducanu on court for a homecoming victory match following her US Open win.

Keeping her look simple, the Duchess opted for minimal jewellery – but add a touch of glamour with her oversized sunglasses, which she put on as the game began

It comes amid a happy period for Kate and her family as earlier today a source confirmed her sister Pippa is ‘heavily pregnant’ with her third child – and is moving to a £15million family home in Berkshire.

Pippa, 38, already has two children with her husband James Matthews: Arthur, three, and Grace, one.

It has been widely rumoured that she is pregnant again, after she arrived at the Queen‘s Platinum Jubilee celebrations in June appearing to sport a bump.

Now, a source has confirmed Pippa and James are ‘thrilled’ by news of the new arrival.

‘Pippa and her family are thrilled,’ a friend confirmed to Daily Mail’s Richard Eden. ‘It’s a very exciting time in their lives.’

Earlier this week, the Duchess congratulated a victorious Prince William with an affectionate kiss on the cheek today after she spent the afternoon cheering him on at Royal Charity Polo Cup 2022 in Windsor.

The Duke, 40, has previously played in charity polo matches with his brother Prince Harry, 37, who now lives in his $14.7million home in Santa Barbara with wife Meghan Markle, son Archie, and daughter Lilibet Diana.

The pair both competed in the Jerudong Trophy charity polo match together at Cirencester Park Polo Club in 2017.

Today, he was accompanied by his wife Kate Middleton, 40, who donned a £1,352 elegant white midi dress with black pipe detailing from her favourite designer Emilia Wickstead, which she paired with a comfortable pair of £195 flats from designer Camilla Elphick for the occasion.

The couple were joined on their appearance today by their family dog, two-year-old Orla.

During the outing, the Duchess appeared in high spirits and could be seen affectionately stroking the puppy with one hand, while nursing a glass of Pimms with her other.

It comes amid a busy week for the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge, who made their first visit to Wimbledon of the year on Wednesday.

Kate cut a polished figure in a £1,515 Alessandra Rich frock as she watched two thrilling matches alongside Prince William and Tim Henman – including Norrie’s five-set thriller against Belgium’s David Goffin.

The ninth seed twice recovered from a set down to claim a 3-6 7-5 2-6 6-3 7-5 victory on a raucous No 1 Court and become only the fourth British man in the Open era to reach the last four at the All England Club.

Norrie clinched victory on his second match point, raising his arms aloft when Goffin netted a forehand after three hours and 28 minutes.

Later, the royal couple tweeted a picture of 26-year-old Norrie pumping his fist on the court, with the caption: ‘What a match! Just brilliant @cam-norrie.’

They later added: ‘What a day of tennis! Fantastic to be back @Wimbledon today and wonderful to see @Cam-Norrie flying the flag in the singles!’
