NBA Christmas Day games 2022: Warriors, Celtics, Lakers reportedly highlight teams playing on basketball holiday

Every year, there are certain days that stand out more than others on the NBA’s calendar.

Christmas is one of those days.

The 2022-23 season will mark the 75th edition of the NBA on Christmas Day, with the first Christmas games taking place back in 1947. Every year since the league’s biggest teams, brightest stars and best up-and-coming players have faced off on the holiday.

This year’s Christmas Day games will be no different. The slate features five nationally televised games that should bring plenty of excitement.

What are the Christmas Day games in 2022?

There has been no official announcement from the NBA, but The Athletic’s Shams Charania, longtime NBA reporter Marc Stein and even 76ers guard James Harden reported over the weekend that the games will be:

  • Bucks at Celtics
  • 76ers at Knicks
  • Suns at Nuggets
  • Lakers at Mavericks
  • Grizzlies at Warriors

Based on these reports, the NBA is, as usual, loading up on the stars. The slate includes a rematch of the thrilling Eastern Conference semifinal between Giannis Antetokounmpo’s Bucks and Jayson Tatum’s Celtics, as well as a rematch of the 2021 Western Conference semifinal between Chris Paul’s Suns and Nikola Jokic’s Nuggets. Sixers stars Harden and Joel Embiid will be taking on Knicks stars Julius Randle and RJ Barrett in Madison Square Garden.

The Lakers are always the Lakers, and LeBron James will have another chance to take center stage on Christmas when he faces Luka Doncic and the Mavericks. And if fans are looking for a thrilling star-vs-star matchup, look no further than the rematch of the 2022 West semifinal matchup between Ja Morant’s Grizzlies and Stephen Curry’s reigning NBA champion Warriors at Chase Center.

What channel are the NBA Christmas Day games on?

This season’s Christmas Day games will be split as usual between ESPN and ABC.
